Frequently Asked Questions
- How is BMI calculated?
- BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². For imperial units the figures are converted to metric first. A BMI of 18.5–24.9 is generally considered the normal range.
- Is BMI accurate for everyone?
- No. It doesn't distinguish muscle from fat and isn't suitable for athletes, children, the elderly or during pregnancy. Treat it as a rough screening tool, not a diagnosis.
